Weekend Notes No. 01

The art of a slow Saturday

There is something about Saturday mornings that invites us to slow down. Coffee tastes better. Breakfast lingers a little longer. The rush of the working week gives way to something quieter, and for a moment, we remember that life isn't only measured by productivity.

Weekend Notes is my invitation to pause. A place to share beautiful things, thoughtful purchases, favorite places and small rituals that make everyday life feel a little more considered.

Weekends at home are my favorite. I love to start the morning gently, with baby cuddles followed by coffee in bed with a magazine or a good book. My husband and baby play a bit while I have some time to myself, and then we make breakfast together and talk about our intentions for the weekend ahead. Usually we go to the farmers’ market, followed by a run to the bookstore and then back home (or sometimes to a favorite restaurant) for lunch.

This weekend we have to include baby’s (I call him baby, but he’s a toddler by now) haircut, washing my car, and a quick run to the tailor. Every Saturday is different on errands, depending on what we have to get done. However, having the morning to simply be is my idea of a great time because it sets the tone for the rest of the day.

What I’m wearing

This week’s outfit formula:

White culottes + striped top + suede boat shoes + slouchy raffia tote

Sometimes I’m in jeans and t-shirt and sometimes I pay more attention to my outfit, depending on what we do after we buy our fruits and vegetables. However, it’s usually something easy and simple, like above.

Around the house

I always have fresh flowers, I feel like something is missing otherwise. Waking up, walking to the kitchen to make my first coffee, I always smile at the flowers - that’s the first thing I see, and it makes me happy.

Reading this week

I just finished “East of Eden”, it’s the type of book I can’t put down so my late nights were so worth it. I have now started “Yesteryear” and I’m hooked after just a few pages. I love when that happens!

Also, every Saturday morning I have my second cup of coffee while reading HTSI, which comes with our FT weekend newspaper. It’s my favorite thing, and their fashion spread is incredibly good. Not exactly new, this article has stayed with me. So good.

Worth Bringing Home

Up until a few months ago I wouldn’t have left the house without foundation on. It had become a habit so ingrained in me that I didn’t consider changing. I am now opting either for a lightweight tint, or nothing at all. And by “nothing” I mean no makeup, just skincare and that’s it. On days when I feel good about my skin, I do my routine, add a few drops of this elixir, and that’s it.

A thought for the weekend

“Festina lente”. It’s my favorite Latin quote, meaning “hurry slowly”. I could explain as to why, but really, there’s no need. We all know how to take a break, the secret is in allowing ourselves the joy without the guilt. What are we in a rush for, anyway?

One question for the week ahead

What is one thing you already own that deserves to be enjoyed more this week?

Happy weekend,
